Earlier this year, I wrote about the docuseries So Cosmo. I was obsessed with it because I’ve always loved reading Cosmopolitan (the Thai version). I’m not sure if E! will continue So Cosmo, but if they don’t, I’ve found the perfect replacement: The Bold Type.

The Bold Type is inspired by the life of former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles, who has been my career role model for the past few years. I would absolutely love to work for Hearst Communications one day.
The series follows three best friends, Jane, Sutton, and Kat, who work at Scarlet, a global women’s magazine. Let’s be honest, it’s basically Cosmopolitan in real life.
My mom was never into fashion or makeup. I found Cosmopolitan on my own, probably because I grew up reading music magazines about my favorite bands from the other side of the world. In one episode, Jane says reading Scarlet feels like having the big sister she never had, since her mom passed away when she was little. And she’s right. That’s exactly how I feel about Cosmo.
I finished season one last night and it was brilliant. Smart, powerful, inspiring, and yes… sexy. I laughed out loud. I screamed. I was fully invested.
I can see parts of myself in all three main characters.
When Jane wrote an article about never having an orgasm, she was terrified to publish it under her own name. But in the end, she took the risk. She chose to be honest instead of hiding. I admire that so much. I’ve wanted to write openly about sex many times. In Thailand, it’s still not something women talk about comfortably. I know it could help people. I just need to be bold enough.
Kat dealing with internet trolls? I’ve been there. When I was younger, I used to respond to trolls because I wanted to defend myself. But that’s exactly what they wanted. It drained me. Eventually, I learned. I even deleted over 600 followers on Twitter because I didn’t need that negative energy. I use Twitter to rant nonsense. People don’t have to read it. Writing things out makes me feel better than keeping everything inside.
And Sutton? I love her ambition. She wants more for herself even without experience or the “right” degree. That hits close to home.
Now let’s talk about Sutton and Richard.
Sutton is an assistant. Richard is a board member and the magazine’s lawyer. Completely forbidden relationship. The series doesn’t show exactly how it started, but from the first episode, I was screaming every time they appeared together. Richard is the ultimate fantasy boyfriend. Smart, supportive, handsome, caring. And yes, every time they’re sneaking around the office, it’s hot. I said what I said. Haha.
But what I love most is that Sutton eventually decides she doesn’t want to be anyone’s secret. She refuses to shrink herself for a relationship. I respect that so much. Still… I hope they end up together. #TeamSuttard.

Jane’s love interest, Ryan, is also interesting. They start as friends with benefits, but eventually she realizes she wants something real. Kat comes out as lesbian and falls for an artist featured in the magazine. I love that the show doesn’t shy away from identity and growth.
What makes this series powerful is that these women accept themselves and aren’t afraid to take risks. Jacqueline, the editor-in-chief, is an incredible boss. She’s tough but kind. She pushes people to grow instead of controlling them.
I love shows like this. Ugly Betty and Glee changed my life in small but important ways. Some of my friends think these series are a waste of time. But I always find inspiration in them. They make me want to try harder, be better, and be bold.
I’ve come so far in life. I started from zero. I’m grateful to everyone who gave me opportunities even without a Bachelor’s degree. I’m fortunate to live the life I do. And I’m not done chasing my dreams.
Two weeks ago, Freeform renewed The Bold Type for two more seasons. I hope it continues for a long time. The problems each character faces are relatable to anyone’s life.
I can’t wait to see what happens next.
