2015 flew by so quickly! It was such a fun year, and I’m hoping 2016 will be just as good—or maybe even better! The first day of the year always feels special, like the first page of a new chapter.
This year, I’m challenging myself to write about every movie I watch in the cinema. Last year, I saw 47 movies, and about 6–8 of them I watched twice. Not bad, right? Yesterday, I kicked off the year with my first movie of 2016: Barcelona Christmas Night.
A few weeks ago, I saw people on Twitter’s #MovieTwit talking about this movie. Then I caught the trailer in the cinema, and it immediately gave me Love Actually vibes—which I love, of course. I’m a sucker for romantic comedies (no surprise there!).
It’s a Spanish film, and the dialogue is in Spanish and Catalan. Normally, I don’t use subtitles when I watch English movies or series, but this time I had to rely on them. At first, I tried reading the Thai subtitles… nope, couldn’t keep up. Then I switched to English… still too fast! Eventually, I went back to Thai again. They were talking so quickly! It made me understand what it’s like for people who don’t speak English and have to depend on subtitles. LOL.
The movie was beautiful. It wasn’t overly sweet like some romantic comedies. It had meaningful quotes and moments that really stayed with me. One line that hit me hard was:
“Trying to forget someone is the best way to remember them.”
That one got me. It’s something I’ve been dealing with for almost four years now. Why can’t I forget someone I never even went on a date with?
Another thing I loved was how the movie portrayed love realistically. Sometimes we still stand by someone even when we think they’re crazy, disagree with them, or don’t understand their choices—and that’s love. Choosing to be on their side no matter what.
When I left the cinema, I suddenly missed the feeling of hugging and kissing someone. It reminded me that, thankfully, I still have feelings. Being single for so long sometimes makes me forget what dating or loving someone feels like. LOL.
Have you seen Barcelona Christmas Night? If you have, tell me what you think! And if not, watch it when you can—it’s the kind of movie that warms your heart. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
